In 2012, NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas and Fr. Michael Pfleger asked 6 rival organizations and other community leaders if they would come together under one roof for a game of basketball and a conversation? The young men showed up and the Peace Games were born. The Peace Games were so successful that it evolved into a weekly Peace League that brings young men, who were once rivals, together in a safe place to compete on the court. Basketball skills aren’t the only skills learned during the Peace League. These young men are also offered classes in life skills, employment training, mentoring and the opportunity to take GED classes. The Peace Game model has proven successful in transforming lives and has expanded thanks to our partners, Noah’s Arc Foundation, Mary’s Court, NBA Cares and the Power of W.E. In 2018, games will be played in the following cities - New Orleans, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago and soon to be added Milwaukee, with past games in Philadelphia, New York, and Baltimore.
