Where Champions Play: A Look Back at 2015
1 years ago
The year 2015 has been busy and exciting for Connor Sports. We have had the opportunity to participate in events across the globe. Through these events and interactions with the communities we served, we learned the core essence of our company – that Connor Sports is Where Champions PlayTM!
Join us as we reflect on Connor Sports’ journey in 2015.
#OfficialCourt of the Men’s and Women’s Final Four
Every year, stories are made when champions play on the official court of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. This was the case in 2015 when Wisconsin beat undefeated Kentucky to make their first NCAA Championship appearance since 1941.
Duke and Wisconsin faced each other in the Championship and Duke’s team walked off the basketball court as champions.
Warriors Win First Championship in 40 Years on a Connor Sports Basketball Court
The Golden State Warriors captured their first title since with a 105-97 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State’s successful 2014-15 season, that relieved them of a 40-year NBA Championship drought, took place on Connor Sports QuickLockÔ basketball court at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.
The 606 Trail Opens in Chicago
Connor Sports looks to build champions on and off the track. So this year, when the 606 Trail broke ground in Chicago we were there, ready to build a place that would serve as a community gathering place where barriers can be broken, friends and families can gather and new relationships can be made. The 606 Trail welcome sign sums up exactly what we picture for this new community area, “You're on the Bloomingdale Trail, the centerpiece of The 606. It's a place where neighbors meet, folks walk, friends ride bikes and runners take off. Come explore.”
Chicago Green Day of Service
Connor Sports, as part of a new partnership with the Green Sports Alliance, lead a community service legacy project on June 28 at Robert Healy Elementary School in Chicago. Upgrades made during the project included a complete renovation of the asphalt court surface, including repairs, sealing, new multi-sport lining and other elements to allow students to play safely.
In addition to the service project at Healy Elementary, Connor Sports partnered with the Noah’s Arc Foundation to upgrade the Major Adams Community Center in Chicago.
First Annual New Orleans Peace Games
Connor Sports was the Title Sponsor of the 2015 Youth Peace Summit and Basketball Tournament held at Loyola University in New Orleans.
The Youth Peace Summit and Basketball Tournament was created by a partnership between Temple of Praise Ministries, One Voice Louisiana and is modeled after the Chicago Peace Games.
The inaugural Peace Summit and Basketball Tournament blended a basketball tournament with life skills and conflict resolution sessions for young men and women age 16-25.
#OfficialCourt of EuroBasket 2015
EuroBasket 2015 was played on five portable Connor Sports basketball courts! This years’ EuroBasket was a historical event, as it was the first time the tournament has ever been organized across four countries - Germany, Croatia, Latvia and France - and five arenas - Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany; Parks and Suites Arena in Montpellier, France; Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France; Arena Riga in Riga, Lativia; Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia.
Cities and fans across Europe were excited about the new tournament model. By placing five basketball courts in four different countries more fans across the continent had the chance to watch the on-court action in person.
Fourth Annual Chicago Peace Games
Everyday champions play on Connor Sports basketball courts but the power of these champions extend beyond the three-point line. As Champions of Community, Connor Sports, along with St. Sabina, Mary’s Courts, Isiah Thomas, the Noah’s Arc Foundation and Joakim Noah, brought champions together for the Fourth Annual Chicago Peace Games in an effort to build relationships and create brotherhood on the neutral territory of a basketball court.
The Peace Games strive to foster relationships among at risk youth of Chicago in hopes of alleviating violence in the community. This is done by asking young men in the south side to take an oath of peace. They promise to renounce affiliations with any violent groups, to turn in their guns and participate in the Peace Games basketball league, career advising and other programs designed to create comradery in the community while preparing individuals to build successful careers.
Boston Celtics New Basketball Court Installed
The Boston Celtics decided it was time to replace their famed parquet basketball court. When time came around to decide who would design and build the new parquet court, the answer was obvious - Connor Sports and Randy Randjelovic.
The new parquet court incorporates pieces of the original court and maintains the traditional Boston Celtics look.
Armed Forces Classic
Every year, Connor Sports installs hundreds of basketball courts across the globe. Rarely do installations have a strong personal connection for our company and our employees. The Armed Forces Classic does.
Since 2012, Connor Sports and ESPN Events have partnered as champions of sport to bring a piece of home and rare opportunity to military members and families stationed on bases abroad – the chance to attend a top tier college basketball game.
This year’s event was held on a Marine Base in Okinawa, Japan. Read more!
The State Farm Champions Classic
The State Farm Champions Classic, which hosts four of the most accomplished teams in college basketball - Kentucky, Duke, Kansas and Michigan State – on a Connor Sports basketball court is one of the most anticipated events in college basketball. Fans across the country look forward to watching the two game series dubbed the “Final Four in November” and considered the unofficial opening of basketball season.
Lauren Hill Connor Sports Award Created
Last year, Connor Sports found someone whose passion, kindness, determination and love for sport and life defined a true champion – Lauren Hill.
Hill’s strength and fight stretched beyond the basketball court and Connor Sports saw this. The gratitude, humility and “never give up attitude” of Hill resonated with Connor Sports and inspired us to do more.
In hopes of passing Hill’s “never give up attitude” to others, Connor Sports teamed up with Mt. St. Joseph’s Development Department to establish the Lauren Hill Connor Sports Award.
Over the next five years, the award will provide a current Mt. Saint Joseph student who displays Hill’s spirit of a champion through excellent academic performance and community engagement with $1,000 in support of their education.
