Champions of Sport: Connor Sports, Praters Flooring and the Horizon League Unveil Tournament Court at Joe Louis Arena
2 years ago
Connor Sports and Praters Flooring manufactured and designed the new portable basketball court for the upcoming Horizon League conference tournament at Joe Louis Arena. This is the first time since 2006 Joe Louis Arena has hosted a basketball game.
The basketball court is made of 248 four-by-seven foot panels weighing about 47,000 pounds produced from hard maple trees from northern Michigan forests. The basketball court will remain with Olympia Entertainment in Joe Louis Arena until the new arena is finished; then, the basketball court will be transferred.
“It’s exceeded expectations,” Julie Roe Lach, deputy commissioner of the Horizon League via the Detroit Free Press. “Everything really pops. The colors look great. Last night, when we came in, you could smell the maple. To see it installed -- they, obviously, worked through the night. It looks fantastic.”
The Horizon League tournament, branded “Motor City Madness,” will begin this Saturday, March 5th, at noon and run until Tuesday, March 8th. Olympia Entertainment Senior Vice President of Sales John Ciszewski said the tournament is expecting about 10,000 spectators a day.
